Our ‘Apps to look out for’ reviews are quick looks into apps that may well have passed under your radar, but may in fact be worth a look, and possibly even a purchase. Have a peek at today’s app and see if you think it is worth your time and money.

GreenPower

If there is one indisputable fact about the rise of modern smartphones, it is that the development of batteries has been far slower than the development of big screens and faster processors. Despite the fact that smartphone screens are absolutely massive these days, and getting bigger, and are also immensely brighter, the batteries have not really improved at all in the last few years.

Luckily, for Android users, there are apps like GreenPower here to help them extend the life of the current range of monster Android handsets. There are quite a few apps like this, but the problem with them is that they quite often require quite a bit of fiddling, whereas GreenPower can be set up once and allowed to run automatically.

Here are the apps main features:

• Adds up to 100% battery time depending on usage
• Manages your Wi-Fi, Mobile Data (2G, 3G, some 4G) & Bluetooth automatically
• Works with almost all devices and carriers
• Supports all Android versions from Froyo to Jelly Bean

From my time with the app over the last week, I really did notice a genuine difference. My phone usually dies around 6PM after thorough usage, but after a few days of this app it was lasting well into the night- although you must get the settings right.

Overall, this is a clever and very useful app that is easy to set up and use and provides real results.
