Our ‘Apps to look out for’ reviews are quick looks into apps that may well have passed under your radar, but may in fact be worth a look, and possibly even a purchase. Have a peek at today’s app and see if you think it is worth your time and money.

Alien Assault Tower Defense TD

Tower defense games are actually a fairly recent new addition to the gaming landscape. This is strange, as there is nothing that would have prevented consoles from the early 1990’s from running tower defense games.

Luckily, with Alien Assault Tower Defense TD, available for Android through the Google Play Store, you can see exactly what 16 bit tower defense games would have looked like.

It really does look gorgeous, with chunky sprites that look like they were scraped straight from a SNES. It is also a very good tower defense game with the ability to defend using a series of turrets.

Here, straight from the developer, are the app’s best features:

– 25 Stages of Space Tower Defense
– Multiple Enemy types and towers
– Survival Mode
– Global Leaderboards
– 50+ Google+ Achievements
– FREE to play

There is a lot of content here, with twenty five lengthy stages to battle across, many different baddies to defeat and a lot of replay value.

This replay value is added by the excellent Survival mode, which was where I spent most of my time with the game, and the addition of over 50 Google Plus based achievements. Online leaderboards are just the icing on the cake.

Overall this is highly recommended. Not only is it free, but there is plenty here to keep you entertained.
