Now, this is  rare treat: an Android app that is as easy to use as it is useful. One of a seemingly endless stream (sorry) of Internet radio apps, Audials may just be the best one yet, because of its fantastic user interface and wide range of genuinely useful features.

So many apps like this add features that only a tiny percentage of users will ever want or need, and place them front and centre. Yet, most people will never use those niche features, or even know what they are. Now, Audials does still have a lot of those ‘advanced’ features for audiophiles out there, but it wisely chooses to make its core features the ones that people will actually want.

Features like being able to easily record a song you are listening to on the radio, having an equalizer that makes sense to the common man and to work as a clock radio with as little fuss as possible. It works so well, in fact, that it would be very difficult to choose any other Internet-based radio tuner after using this. It just works as you would want it to.

Here, straight from the developer, are the app’s best features:

✪ Including Clock Radio: Wake Up with your Favourite Internet Radio Station ✪
Audials app will wake you up on time with the music of your favourite Internet radio. Including Snooze function! A sleep timer is included as well.

✪ Your Radio Recorder ✪
Just click the “Record” button to save music played by the web radio. With the history you can play back your favorite songs at any time again and again.

✪ Fast Zapping between Radio Stations ✪
Enter a desired radio station or an artist and zap quickly to find one that best matches your music taste. Finding new web radios has never been this easy!

✪ Mobile Entertainment with more than 100.000 Podcasts ✪
From news, documentaries and current affairs to language courses, tech reviews and comedy, Audials covers an extensive range of entertainment with thousands of podcasts.

✪ Stream to Airplay and Chromecast ✪
Audials is the one and only app for android, which can stream music to airplay receivers. Also Chromecast is supported.

✪ Equalizer ✪
Adapt the sound for every amplifying system or headphone.

Yes, you read that correctly: you can stream to Airplay receivers using this app, which is a very rare feature for an Android app. I tried it, and it works perfectly and I also tested the Chromecast streaming which was equally reliable.

We have reviewed the free, ad-supported version here, but there is also a Pro version that has a unique ‘music wish’ feature where the app will search for songs for you as they are playing. You can find it here: Audials Pro.

If you are looking for an app that acts and feels like an old-fashioned clock radio with a cassette recorder, then Audials is it, although with streaming radio and a bagfull of features. If that sounds a bit too good to be true, well believe me it isn’t, and I can’t recommend Audials highly enough.
