MotionRunner - Bert Studios Apps to look out for is a regular feature where we take a look at an app that may have gone under your radar, and may in fact be worth a look.

Motion Runner

The iPhone App Store has been absolutely inundated with endless runners for a few years now. Endless runners are games where your character runs across a never ending landscape, with the only control given to the player being the ability to jump. Well, I am glad to say that Motion Runner bucks this trend and differentiates itself from the pack in a couple of key ways.

First of all, it isn’t endless. The game thankfully offers up actual stages to learn and beat. There are 20 of these stages, with 5 of them being of the ‘extra challenging’ variety. It is good value for a dollar, and the value aspect will only get better as the developer adds more and more levels.

Secondly, you have a lot more control over your runner than you do in other games. Whereas you can only usually do either a small or long jump, here you can jump in nearly any direction, using the new ‘flick’ control method.

You simply flick your finger in the direction you want your character to go in, and he will jump with the same strength that you put into the flick. It takes a little getting used to, but after a while it becomes second nature and you wonder why more games of this type don’t offer the same level of freedom. The are quite a few moves to learn.

The graphics are simple, but move smoothly and are animated well. The sound is decent, particularly the humorous scream when the runner falls to his death.

Overall, this is a good runner game that offers up a decent challenge using an innovative new control system.
