Bicycle® Jacked Up!™ - The United States Playing Card Company Apps to look out for is a regular feature where we take a look at an app that may have gone under your radar, and may in fact be worth a look.

Bicycle Jacked Up!

It is great when a traditional type of game is updated for modern times in an innovative and thoughtful way that also stays true to the roots of the original. That is very much the case with Bicycle Jacked Up! from The United States Playing Card Company.

This free app doesn’t do much by itself, as you have to buy a special pack of playing cards to use the game properly. Don’t worry, the cards aren’t expensive at just $5.99, and they are of a high quality, in nice packaging, and also come with a really cool stand for your iPhone to use while playing.

In fact, using the stand is essential, as the ‘Jack’ character that joins the game really come to life with the iPhone in an upright position. It is a free stand so no complaints there!

Jack changes the rules of the game you are playing whenever you use your iPhone to scan one of the special cards. It is this that brings these games into the modern era and makes them stand out a mile from their contemporaries in either the App Store or on the shelves of supermarkets.

There are three types of game available, Hearts, Solitaire and War. Playing along with Jack changing the rules with every hand is great fun, and it does feel as if you have got someone extra in the room, such is the nature of Jack personality.

Scanning the cards is easy, especially when used in conjunction with the free stand, which also allows you to store the cards along with the iPhone. The cards scan pretty quickly, and I didn’t have any problems getting them to be recognised or read during my time with the game.

You can play with up to eight players on one iPhone, with the ability to give everyone a name a nice touch. there is also the ability to upload your score to both Twitter and Facebook. A nice extra here is that you can get the app to automatically upload your beginning and end time to Twitter.

Overall, this is an innovative and fun game that uses the abilities of the iPhone in a new and interesting way.
