Our ‘Apps to look out for’ reviews are quick looks into apps that may well have passed under your radar, but may in fact be worth a look, and possibly even a purchase. Have a peek at today’s app and see if you think it is worth your time and money.

Monster Tower

We have reviewed a lot of tower defence games here at The Smartphone App Review, so it is always nice when a game comes along that tackles the genre from a different angle. This time the angle is 2D, with everything viewed from a side on perspective. The other way that this tries to be different is the way it places you in charge of the supposed ‘bad guys’, the monsters defending their tower, and precious monster eggs, against an onslaught of humans in the form of knights, archers and more.

The game lets you purchase and upgrade monsters to attack the encroaching humans, as well as a series of traps that are either of the one use variety or rechargable. The monsters also recharge over time, and can be placed in the game when you have enough funds. There is a really impressive variety of monsters to unlock and level up, with a really cool skill tree structure for upgrading the traps.

The graphics are cute, with bold design choices and bright colours and theming. Everything animates really well, and I didn’t spot any slowdown during my extensive time with the game. The game supports Game Center leaderboards, and there is an online shop to purchase points and gold to unlock things quickly via IAP.

Overall, this is a great little tower defence game that is pretty much unmissable, especially as it is being offered for free.
