Instagram really did popularise the idea of adding filters to photos. While the basic idea had been around for many years, Instagram added incredible ease of use and a social aspect to photo filters, turning what had been the domain of camera enthusiasts to something that anyone with a smartphone could do.

However, times have moved on, and many people want their photos to be that little bit more unique, to have a look that no-one else has, and that is where MIX, a superb new app by the Camera 360 team, comes in.

MIX allows you to literally create your own camera filters. Now, that may sound very complicated and intimidating, but the way the developer has handled the user interface really deserves to be applauded, as it is as easy as you can imagine to creates your own ‘mixes’, add them to photos and either share your creation or the actual mix of filters you used to get the effect.

No doubt the first place you are going to go after downloading the app will be the Filter Plaza, a place where you can find and discover some truly amazing photography, all improved by MIX. In an inspired touch, the app first gives you the unedited photo and transforms it before your eyes with the creator’s own filters, in a wonderful ‘before and after’ feature that shows exactly what the app is capable of.mix camera360

Here, straight from the developer, are the app’s best features:

# Design and save your own photo formulas
# dSLR-like Depth of Field experience
# State of the art bokeh blurring
# Advanced selective color adjustment
# Non-linear & non-destructive workflow
# 115 Handpicked filters
# 40+ Original textures, including flare, stage, and light leaks
# 10+ Professional adjustment tools
# Fast multi-layer processing
# Easy sharing to Instagram

When you choose a photo to use, you can play around with so many filters, effects, textures and tools, that you will be amazed at what you can produce in just a few seconds. Soon enough though, you will start to properly experiment with each of the tools, and learn about how each tool has an effect on the next tool, which is when the app starts to fly. The depth of field and light leak tools really deserve special mention.

One impressive aspect of the app is just how fast it works on processing these effects, with most of them applied instantaneously. It should also be noted that this app is completely free, and of course, has an Instagram sharing feature built-in.

Mixes you use to create your photos can be saved for future use, which is a great way of making future photos as quickly as possible. Overall, this is a superb free app that allows you to turn your photos into works of art in just a few clicks, and without the limitations of other similar services.
