It seems the licensing deal with Google has ended. YouTube is still accessible through the web app via Safari, though it looks like Google will be working on its own standalone app.
The YouTube app will remain on iOS 5 and older on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. It is still not certain whether the new app will be installable on the same devices.
According to Engadget.com, YouTube has commented saying, “We are working with Apple to ensure we have the best possible YouTube experience for iOS users.” Not a whole lot of information, but perhaps this will give Google the chance to redesign the app with a more original and intuitive design. Here’s to the new iOS and the more news that is surely to come.
