Every month, thousands of gaming apps are released for Android and iOS, but as most users know, most of them are not worth the time, money or stress of purchase. Every now and then, however, a real gem hits the market and smartphone users are treated to games that have the same standard of quality that you might expect from a PC or console. Let’s take a look at just a few recently released treasures for your entertainment.

If you like a visual experience, there’s no better game out for iOS right now than Flower: a game in which you play a leaf blowing in the wind, collecting petals and solving puzzles along the way. It’s an unusual concept, but one that is carried out to perfection by the makers of the stunning Journey. Flower is an award-winning sensory experience that is not only beautiful and colorful but truly relaxing to play. Tilt your phone to steer and enjoy the movement of your leaf through lush meadows and forests.

Another visually pleasing game in its own right is Thimbleweed Park, but this one is going to leave you scratching your head for days as you point and click your way through a deep murder, mystery plot set in a small, American fringe town in which everybody knows everybody. There is a crime to solve, but that will be the least of your worries as you navigate the eerie woods and interact with feds, game designers, ghosts and a foul-mouthed clown on the brink of failure. Excellent dialogue and a compelling story carry you through this excellent game, which is brought to life by Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick; the creators of the epic adventure of yester-year Secret of Monkey Island. Thimbleweed Park is available for both Android and iOS.

If you prefer a more action-packed game, Morphite might be right for you. Set in a vintage sci-fi style, Morphite charges you to shoot your way through bad guys, explore areas and collect resources. The pastel colors are unique yet timeless and the gameplay brings a nice fast pace to your Android or iOS device. Morphite is set within a narrative that keeps the action well framed and linear, which gives the game its own charm.

Moving into the mainstream now, Netflix has recently released their mobile-game version of “Stranger Things”, the massively popular TV series with elements of mystery and horror. The game is set within the same world and everything from the graphics to the story to the sound effects will have the player reminiscing over the series. The mobile app, available for the Android and iOS, is totally free and involves no hidden costs or in-app purchases. The makers have only released it promotionally, but when you get to play it, you’ll see that the game plays fantastically and feels and looks a lot like an old-school RPG like Zelda.

Casinos are also entering the mobile world, both as social gaming apps and as real-money apps. Among the most popular online casinos in the world is PokerStars Casino, and they have recently released versions of their apps for both the Android and iOS. The mobile versions feature all the same games as the desktop site, including European roulette, blackjack in single and multiplayer, hundreds of slots as well as variations of poker and other card games. The app also features a live casino with the most popular games broadcast with live dealers. You can find the PokerStars Casino mobile app in the Google Play and the Apple store.

Last on the list, is a release that has been long awaited by fans across the globe. The critically acclaimed PC and console game Minecraft has now gone mobile and is available for both the Android and iOS. The Minecraft Pocket Edition gives you a giant world of mining and building with a survival mode in which you must gather your own resources and a creative mode in which you can pretty much do whatever you want. This game is huge, and it converts well onto mobile so that you can build as you move.
