Jetpack Water Jump, available for Android through the Google Play store, is a fun and content packed game that is a compelling free download. Jetpack Water jump is essentially an endless runner style game, but it has a lot more depth than the average title of its type.

The game sets you with the task of getting a series of different characters along a variety of levels, attempting to get the highest score. The idea is to avoid the water and keep jumping, using your jetpack, with a tap on the screen making you jump, and a longer hold on the screen activating the jetpack.

While getting stuck in the water can prove fatal, it actually ends up being a key mechanic of the scoring, but that won’t really dawn on you until you have had some time with the game, and many deaths. Basically, you get far more points for going underneath obstacles, using your momentum to dive under the water, than you do jumping over them.

There are different characters to unlock, although they all seemed to play the same. They do offer a bit of character, however and all are worth taking the effort to find.

Here, straight  from the developer, are the app’s best features:

★ Easy to understand gameplay
★ Fun multiplayer component
★ Daily rewards
★ 150 challenges to choose from
★ Collect coins and unlock characters
★ Leaderboards
★ Hardcore and arcade mode

There are two main single player modes, arcade and the more challenging hardcore mode, but the real content here is in the challenges. These are achievement-style tasks that you can complete for extra rewards, and there are 150 of them, so it is going to take you a very long time to beat them all.

I have to give credit to the developer for the effort put in here to extend the life of the game, especially with the addition of a multiplayer component. Wisely using the Google Play service, this lets you play online with up to 3 other players for some 4 player fun. You can play with friends or you can choose to use the built-in matchmaking system to find somebody to play with. It is good fun, especially against similarly skilled players, and matches can get quite intense.

The presentation is really well done, with sharp graphics and a nice parallax scrolling background. Everything moves very smoothly and there are no technical issues to speak of.

Overall, there is a lot to like here. With a lot of content for a free game and even online play, Jetpack Water jump is a decent little Android game.
