Aeronauts: Quake in the Sky
It is always refreshing when a good old fashioned vertical shoot ’em up comes along to remind you of the days of 1942 and its many descendants. Aeronauts:Quake in the Sky is one such game, a romper stomp, all guns blazing game that combines decent controls with smooth gameplay to produce a very good shooter.
With the help of Ultra-Vox, new generation of power engine created by genius scientist Dr. Stier, humanity has faced the aerial revolution era. Aero Castles are floating in the skies of Europe and ambitious teenagers are yearning the life of a fighter pilot. This has raised numbers of Flight Schools to be established and may pilots have been trained. One of the Flight Schools is Moulin de Ciel known to be the best of all times. You as a player of Aeronauts will become a cadet of Moulin de Ciel, fighting your way to become the best pilot ever.
What this means is that you have to go shoot down a whole load of planes, and you get a selection of different warbirds to choose from, each with different play styles. There are three different control methods, tilt, which is handled surprisingly well, a virtual joystick and the touch method. All three are decent options, and you will want to experiment to find the best one for you.
Your machine guns are fired automatically, and can be upgraded by collecting certain collectables, and you can also perform an impressive guided missile attack by sweeping your finger over enemy targets. This move is visually striking and is particularly important when playing against the games bosses.
The graphics are great, and look a lot like an upgraded 1942, with the bosses being especially worthy of note. The music is great, and really pumps you up for the game, and there are even online leaderboards to round out the experience.
All in all, a great shooter that you should have no hesitation in downloading. Recommended.
