Apps to look out for is a regular feature where we take a look at an app that may have otherwise gone under your radar, and that may be very well worth a look.
Economizer
There are a lot of advantages to owning a smartphone, from playing games to personal information management and everything in-between. Here we have an app that promises to help organise your finances on a personal, day to day level.
There may be quite a few apps out there that already do this, but economizer uses an interesting and original interface and design that really helps motivate you to save that cash.
You see, in a move that is as humorous as it is clever, every time you spend some money, you let the app know by flushing a chain. Yep, you read that correctly, you actually pull a chain, enter the amount you have spent and then press a big ‘flush’ button.
It is actually a really intelligent way of making you aware of just how you may be wasting your cash on unnecessary purchases.
When you boot the app up, you let the program know how many days you want to use the app for, and how much sare cash you have. The app then breaks the cash down into how much you are allowed to spend each day, and you are then presented with a figure each day that displays the remaining daily cash amount.
Each time you ‘flush’ this figure goes down until you either have zero left or dip into an agreed overdraft.
The animation on the flush handle is great, and you can drag it around the screen in an intuitive way, which is a nice touch.
I found the app really useful, as it made my finances seem a bit more fun and interesting than many more mundane offerings already out there, so I can recommend this app to anyone who wants to approach personal finance from a slightly different perspective.
