Apps to look out for is a regular feature where we take a look at an app that may have otherwise gone under your radar, and that may be very well worth a look.

This apps tagline is ‘Always choose the nuclear option’, but should you choose this nuclear option and lay down some hard earned cash for this game?

Well, if you are looking for some simple turn based action gaming, then you could do a lot worse than pick Nukes up. This ‘cold war gone wrong’ styled game sees you take the part of either the USA or the Soviets as you try to nuke as many opposing cities as you can.

You control your nuclear arsenal on a globe at the bottom of the screen, and must launch your nuclear weapons at an opposing globe that is positioned at the top of the screen. The catch is that the enemy globe is spinning, so you must time your attacks to annihilate the enemy cities.

When you launch a nuke, your turn ends and it is the enemy who must then attack you as your globe spins wildy. The game ends when one side or the other runs out of cities. A nice touch is if you choose to play as the Soviets, then all the text in gameplay is in Russian, and vice-verca for the Americans.

There are plenty of stages to work through, but the best thingh here is the two player mode.

In this turn based mode, one player takes the part of the USA while the other plays the role of the Soviets, and you then takes turns to nuke each other’s coities. It is good fun and the highlight of the game, and the way the game uses both ends of the iPhone’s screen is clever.

Overall, this is a good looking, well playing treat, and one that is well worth checking out.
