Rocky Isle - A new twist on Sudoku! - HoboSoft

Apps to look out for is a regular feature where we take a look at an app that may have otherwise gone under your radar, and that may be very well worth a look.

Rocky Isle – A New Twist on Sudoku!

Sudoku games are ten a penny on the Apple App Store, with all manner of different options all straining at getting some hard earned cash from the grasp of your wallet. They all share the same problem, however; they are all basically identical as, however you dress it Sudoku is Sudoku right?

Wrong, as Rocky Isle has proven, with a brilliant new take on the ancient formula that opens up the classic game like never before and will be sure to provide a massive challenge to even the most fanatic of Sudoku fans.

It is a graphical take on the puzzle game that somehow manages to actually add some adventuring and exploration elements to the game. I had best let the developer explain the basics of the game properly:

Puzzles come in the form of grids which are further sectioned off into separate regions, all designed to take on the look of tropical islands. The player’s mission in the game is simple: place a hill onto every square of each island on any given level, utilizing up to seven differently sized hills to do so. What looks deceptively simple can be a daunting task, a mentally engaging puzzle juggernaut.

What this amounts to is a staggering 5000 puzzles with 9 difficulty levels. It is a mammoth undertaking, and one that is as rewarding as it is challenging.

This is a game that will provide hours and hours of entertainment, and with many different modes to play through, if you get stuck on a particular puzzle, you can always come back to it after exploring and investigating some other modes of play.

Overall, a really good puzzle game with plenty of depth with a nice graphical sheen all round.
