Apps to look out for is a regular feature where we take a look at an app that may have otherwise gone under your radar, and that may be very well worth a look.
Smart Words Free
The App Store is inundated with word and puzzle games. Just about every possible combination of classic and new games are available, but many of them are of poor quality, with the difficulty level proving perhaps the hardest to get right for many rookie developers.
Smart Words, on the other hand gets what I believe is the most important aspect of an addictive word game; the difficulty level, spot on. It is one of the few word games that actually rewards you when you use a longer word, and there are no shortcuts or any ways of spamming or cheating.
In play, the game feels like a cross between Words With Friends and the timeless classic, Scrabble. The great thing here is that not only are you rewarded for longer words, but also for smarter words, with the game having a way of knowing which words are rarer or harder to get. So far, in my experience, the game has got these score accelerating words just right every time, scoring me higher for the words I know I had trouble getting. Very clever.
You can even learn new words by double clicking on words on the board, at which point a dialogue will appear that can be used to show different definitions or other words that have the same meaning. It is really handy for increasing your vocabulary.
There is integrated Game Center scoreboards and achievements, and even a pass and play multiplayer option to add a lot of extra game hours to this title.
if you are looking for an attractive and intelligent word game for your iPhone, then Smart Words is one to watch.
This version is ad-supported, with a paid option to remove the ads coming soon.
