Simplicity is the key when it comes to the iPad game Alien Hominid: PDA Games created by The Behemoth. For free, players are given a trial run of 17 levels; but for only $.99, you can unlock 550 more levels. As addictive as this game is, players will find themselves upgrading by the first night.
The aim of PDA Games for iPad is to guide a chalk figure through a field of boxes to get to the other red gate. This gate is locked until you kill all the enemies. Careful now, these enemies are equipped with guns that are programmed to shoot every couple of seconds. If you get caught in the pathway of a stray bullet, or the enemies manage to run you over, it’s back to the beginning where all your progress on that level is restarted. Kill enemies by jumping on them or throwing various rocks on their heads.
Along the way, you have the opportunity to collect green gems. Collect as many as possible in level in order to rack up your score. Each gem you collect and every enemy you kill is worth 100 points. As easy as this may sound, not every gem is placed in an accessible area. Some are over water, where a boat is needed to get across safely or else you drown. Some are on grey blocks, which indicate a falling block. Once you stand on these blocks for a certain time period, these gray blocks fall and you have to wait for them to reappear before you can cross. Spikes appear in some levels, and well, those don’t feel so good. These traps are set up to make game play more interesting.
The controls are just as simple. The screen is split into two sides. On the left side you are presented with a joystick. This is used to get your little guy to move; up, down, left, right, and anywhere in-between. If you click anywhere on the left side, the joystick will follow you. Of course this can be locked in settings if you wish. You use the right side to jump. Easily tap anywhere on the right side of the screen and your chalk figure will jump. This flexibility allows for a comfortable playing style for every person. Great thinking on the developer’s part.
In play mode, the top of your screen is normal. You are told what world pack you are in, such as Trial or Euro and what level you are on in that particular pack. Your score and time are also displayed. Probably the best feature of this game is the ability to be able to play in whatever world pack you want. You can start if in Starter or in Hotness and all your levels are kept. Players have the option to replay any level they have already completed, but cannot skip ahead levels.
This app is perfect for on-the-go gamers and offers an addicting release from stress. Once you pick it up, you will not want to put it down. Also available iPhone and iPod touch, this game is excellent. To unlock all the levels for a one time purchase of $.99, I recommend this app to anyone looking for a simple game with a lot of hours of fun.
