HotDoc for iPad
HotDoc for iPad may just be the best way you can manage your documents, outside of a PC. The app was created to solve the very real problem of document management on iOS, after all, many businesses use iPads for daily document related tasks, so a proper management interface for them can only be a good thing. How though, does HotDoc stack up?
Very well, as it turns out, as this has a dazzling array of features and options. I would first like to mention the interface, as this is truly superb, and obviously designed for the big screen of the iPad from the ground up. The menus are all intelligently laid out and use the real estate offered up by the iPad to its full extend, and everything is very intuitive indeed.
Here are some of the features of the app:
✓ Very intuitive and easy to use interface
✓ Import of files by e-mail accounts, dropbox and built-in WebDAV server
✓ Export of files to dropbox and via built-in WebDAV server and e-mails
✓ Creation and edit of text files
✓ Creation of folders (subfolders and complex structures are possible)
✓ Copying and moving individual documents or entire folder structures
✓ Direct sending documents by e-mail
✓ Opening documents from other APPs in HotDoc and vice versa
✓ Many possibilities of adding your own notes, lines, rectangles, ellipses, markers, etc.
✓ Zoom for viewing documents
✓ Searching for documents (including subfolders)
✓ Printing the documents content
✓ Help function with a detailed user manual (over 60 pages)
✓ Automatic adjustment of the program language depending on the system settings from iPad (English, Spanish, French, German, Polish)
As you can see, there is a huge amount here, but a couple of features really stood out for me. The first is the ability to zoom in on any document, something that surprisingly few programs an d apps easily allow you do do, but it is in fact extremely useful. The second is support for files created in Apple’s own suite of programs, such as Keynote, Numbers and Pages, meaing that virtually all of your work can be carried out on one device.
Overal, this is a gorgeous and useful app that should be essential for any business user.
