Sega have finally revealed the long awaited Sonic 4: Episode 2 will be heading to most major smartphone platform early this year.
Ever since the well received first game, Sonic fans have been longing for a taste of the second episode in the forth entry into the ‘main’ series, and now Sega are very close to finally releasing the game. Using a pseudo 3D style with 2D gameplay, the first Sonic 4: Episode One won over old time fans with it’s melding of the classic gameplay formula with decent new looks, and that seems set to continue with the sequel.
Sega have created an all new engine with improved animations and physics, an expansion of the Sonic 4 story and the addition of a new sidekick and the return of an old villain. The game will be released on iOS for both iPhone and iPad, Android and Windows Phone.
Sega say that the Android version will feature enhanced support for Tegra 3 architectures; a nice sign that they are taking the platform seriously. No word on whether the extra buttons of the Xperia Play will be supported, but as Sega included support for them in the Android version of Sonic CD, it is likely they will be used here.
The Windows Phone version will no doubt be fully Xbox Live enabled, with achievements and leaderboards. Check out the trailer below for a sneak peek at the game, and expect a full review on release day, which shouldn’t be too much longer.
