Apps to look out for is a regular feature where we take a look at an app that may have gone under your radar, and may in fact be worth a look.
Apple has been enjoying much success with its iBookstore, which allows you to download a wide variety of eBooks, but it has also allowed competing services to stay on the App Store, such as the Kindle. This means that there is plenty of room for niche offerings, and one of the very best of these is KiddoBook.
KiddoBook is designed for and aimed directly at 3 – 8 year olds. This focus has allowed it to create an offering that is both diverse and good value for money for parents. Many books are free or just 99c, which are fabulous prices.
The app is designed very much like the Apple app iBooks, and is this familiarity that means the app is easy to use and intuitive. Purchasing and reading books is easy and fun, and there are several ways each book can be read.
The books are standard eBooks, but you can choose to have one of the developer’s actors read out the book for your child, which is a great touch that really helps the app stand out from the rest on the App Store. You can, of course read the book out to the child yourself or have them read it themselves.
The books are really attractive themselves and feature some great illustrations. Overall, this is a great app that will provide kids with hours and hours of entertainment, and the only problem may be getting your iPad back!
