Roach Smasher is a simple game built on a foundation of quiet addictiveness that actually proves to be a surprisingly diverting game for iPhone. Using the touch screen, you tap away at a variety of insects as they run around on a plane of glass. Each time you tap one, your combo meter goes up, adding extra points to your score. Miss one and your combo is reset to one, so it is important to keep the combo going for as long as possible. Each bug is worth one point before any combos, except for one super fast, giant bug, who is worth many more(if you can catch him). This giant bug also destroys quite a bit of glass.
Missing a bug also results in the plane of glass getting slightly smashed and cracked. The glass starts at 100% solidity, but is reduced by 5% with each miss, with a nice graphical effect, until it gets to zero, at which point the game ends. There is no real ‘ending’ to the game, as the idea is to get as high a score as possible and post it to the built in Game Center leaderboards.
There are some cute graphic designs here, and I really liked the plinky-plonk soundtrack. With Twitter, Game Center and Facebook integration, there is plenty to keep you coming back.
Overall, a decent little game with plenty of charm, Roach Smasher is worth a look.
