Microsoft is now taking preorders on their newly anticipated 10.6 inch Surface tablet at Surface.com. Prices will begin at $499 for 32GB and $699 for 64GB Wi-Fi models.
The tablets come with a built-in kickstand, Nvidia Tegra 3 CPU and 2GB RAM inside a titanium casing. They will feature Bluetooth 4.0, gyroscope, compass dual microphones, stereo speakers, 802.11N Mimo Wi-Fi radio, an accelerometer and an HD-out port. The Surface will also be equipped with a USB 2.0 port and micro SD slot. And no tablet would be complete without a camera, this one will come with two, front and back. Both will be 720p.
Of course Microsoft has pre-loaded Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 RT software, but it is a preview edition. Unfortunately the Touch Cover keypad that has been shown in so many of the ads will sadly not be included. The 3mm Touch Cover will run you $119 extra unless you bundle or spring for the larger $699 version. At this time there is no cellular data available as they will be Wi-Fi only, though Microsoft has mentioned that the option may be available in the future.
The Surface is set to ship October 26th. Do you think this will be a holiday darling? Or is the “iPad Mini” set to overshadow Microsoft’s tablet attempt? Let us know what you will be buying this holiday season in the comments below.
