Sega have announced that Sonic CD will be released for iPhone, Android and Windows Phone next month.
Titled Sonic CD HD, the game is a port of the old Sega CD/Mega CD game that was one of the few good things to come from the failed Genesis CD add-on experiment, and is widely regarded as one of the very best of the blue hedgehogs 2D adventures.
The game is famous for its cartoon cut scenes, but the graphics in-game are more on a level of Sonic 1+2 rather than Sonic 3. So, not as good on a technical level, but I have always preferred the look of the first two games. The title had a stunning soundtrack that will no doubt make a return, but there will be a few additions to this mobile release.
The biggest change will be that Tails will be playable as a character upon completion of the game with Sonic, and there will also be achievements for the Windows Phone version and Game Center integration for the iOS game. Whether Sega will implement any OpenFient content for the Android release is unknown.
