Bird Cage – Flying Birdcage Frenzy, available for iPhone and iPad through the Apple iTunes App Store, is a fun and colourful action game with a nice casual feel that still provides a bit of a challenge.
The aim of the game is to catch dozens of birds flying across the screen, and put them into a range of cages perched along the top of the action. Each bird must be grabbed by touching and holding your finger on the screen, at which point you can drag the hapless flyer to a cage.
Each bird must be dumped into a cage that matches its colours, so red birds into red cages, for example. The gameplay is basic, but things soon get hectic as you quickly get more and more birds appearing at once, all with differing coloured feathers making it really tough to guide them correctly.
The developer also ramps things up in later levels by having cages that move and swing in the breeze, which really adds to the complexity nicely.
Here, straight from the developer, are the app’s best features:
• 5 challenging levels. FREE play for all ages
• Simple controls: One hand, tap and swipe
• Lots of variety: Moving birdcages, color-changing birds, flappy wings and speed variations
• Join the global leaderboard: Beat other players around the world
• Fun cartoon graphics – bright and colorful arcade style play
• Win electronics, gadgets and other great prizes
The game is free to download and play, with extra levels requiring an in-app purchase. Most of the purchases are well priced, but there is one that is pretty expensive, I have to say.
There is a neat feature that allows you to enter competitions to win some decent prizes, such as an iPhone 7, so if you are good at the game then purchasing some of the later levels might be worth looking at. The game is still free to play, but the option of the competitions is an interesting feature.
The graphics are good, with some nice animation on the birds as they hurtle along the screen. Overall, this is a nice little action game linked to an interesting competitive element that will be sure to interest many people. Well worth a second look.
